Your participation is an important part of Rutgers' outreach to alumni. Chartered groups connect alumni to their traditions and create future memories.By committing to this organization you are part of one alumni association – 370,000 alumni strong. Chartering – Privileges
- Coverage for leaders under the university’s umbrella liability insurance policy
- Use of the university’s marks and logos in compliance with university procedures and policies
- Use of the university’s tax-exempt status
- Use of the university’s alumni data
- Use of the university’s communications tools to reach target audiences, including communication templates, style guides and publishing vendors
- Online volunteer tools and resources available at Ralumni.com/tools
- Annual leadership training sessions
- University support for and coordination of Homecoming and Reunion activities
- Chartered group leaders become members of the RUAA Alumni Leaders Council and are invited to the annual Alumni Leaders Conference
- Access to Rutgers facilities for meetings and events
Chartering – Responsibilities
- Identify the group’s goals and mission
- Identify the group’s constituency
- Identify the group’s leaders
- Submit a copy of the group’s constitution and by-laws, if applicable
- Agree that no dues will be collected by the group
- Agree not to enter merchandise or other third party contracts in which royalties are received by the group.
- Agree not to solicit donations in lieu of membership dues to fund the group’s operating budget
- Agree to abide by the RUAA’s and the university’s policies & procedures
Chartering – Process
- Existing organizations and newly formed groups may apply to the RUAA for chartered status.
- An online application will be available for groups to apply for chartered status, providing checkboxes to “agree” to the specified policies (no dues, etc.) – this application is available in hard copy upon request.
- The completed form will be submitted to the Department of Alumni Relations Director of Volunteer Development.
- The director will submit completed applications to the Standing Committee on the Alumni Council.
- The Standing Committee on the Alumni Council will review the application(s) and make recommendations to the RUAA board for approval as per the RUAA Constitution.
- The full rights and privileges of the RUAA will be extended to groups following successful completion of the chartering process.
