About the Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Awards

The Rutgers University Alumni Association presents the Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Awards annually to recognize alumni and other members of the university community who devote their time and talents to further the mission of the alumni association and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Awards are the highest honor for volunteers within the university. Awards have recently been updated to ensure meaningful recognition of outstanding volunteerism that is in close alignment with strategic priorities.

Awards for Charter Groups Events and Programs

There will be six awards available to chartered alumni groups.  These awards will honor innovative and inclusive alumni engagement programming that further the mission of the RUAA in each of their core strategic plan areas. A monetary award will go to the honoree organizations to foster continued alumni programming excellence.

Collaboration
Recognizes a charter group that engages alumni through key partnerships within the Rutgers community (faculty, departments, chartered alumni organizations, etc.)

Student Engagement
Recognizes a charter group that engages current or incoming students in meaningful connections with alumni that foster a lifelong connection to Rutgers

Professional Development
Recognizes charter group excellence through mentoring and/or career-focused programming

Community Service
Recognizes a charter group that engages alumni through volunteerism and/or community outreach

Philanthropy 
Recognizes charter group excellence in fostering philanthropy to the Rutgers University Foundation 
 
Communications 
Recognizes charter group excellence in communication strategy (social media, web, etc.)


Awards for Individual Alumni

Scarlet Forever Award
This award recognizes an alumnus/a who has maintained a lifetime connection to Rutgers University and the Rutgers University Alumni Association.

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee must be a Rutgers graduate
  • Describe the nominee's lifetime involvement with Rutgers
  • Describe the impact of the nominee's involvement on the university and its constituents
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

Volunteer of the Year Award
This award recognizes an alumnus/a for their remarkable service over the past year to Rutgers University and the RUAA

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee must be a Rutgers graduate
  • Describe the nominee's volunteer service role as it relates to Rutgers and the results of this nominee's efforts
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

Young Alumni Service Award
This award recognizes an alumnus/a age 39 and under who has provided exemplary volunteer service to Rutgers University and the Rutgers University Alumni Association 

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee must be a Rutgers graduate
  • Describe the nominee's volunteer service role as it relates to Rutgers and the results of this nominee's efforts
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

Honorary Alumna/us Award
This award recognizes a Non-alumnus/a who has provided exemplary volunteer service to Rutgers University and the Rutgers University Alumni Association 

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee may not be a Rutgers graduate
  • Describe the nominee's volunteer service role as it relates to Rutgers and the results of this nominee's efforts
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

Please Note: No current RUAA Board members are eligible to receive a Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Individual Award.
