About the Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Awards

The Rutgers University Alumni Association presents the Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Awards annually to recognize those alumni and other members of the university community who devote their time and talents to further the mission of the alumni association and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Awards are the highest honor for volunteers within the university. 
Award recipients will be honored at the annual Alumni Leaders Conference in the fall. 


Nominations

To nominate a member of the Rutgers community, fill out the Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Awards Nomination FormBefore making a nomination, please review the descriptions, required information, and materials necessary for each award below. Please note that all individual award nominations will require the nominee's name, college/year, occupation, and contact information.

The deadline for nomination is June 15, 2015.

Awards for Individual Alumni and Faculty Members

Walter H. Seward Rutgers for Life Award  

This award recognizes an alumnus/a who has maintained a lifetime connection to the university. It is presented in memory of Walter H. Seward RC'17, Rutgers’ oldest living alumnus. He passed away in September 2008 at age 111. Walter gave a lifetime of loyalty to Rutgers, and his legacy will endure forever.

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee must be a Rutgers graduate
  • Describe the nominee's lifetime involvement with Rutgers
  • Describe the impact of the nominee's involvement on the university and its constituents
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

MAKE A NOMINATION

Old Queen’s Tribute Award

This award recognizes one alumnus/a who has been actively involved in leadership roles in the Rutgers community.

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee must be a Rutgers graduate
  • Describe the nominee's volunteer service role as it relates to Rutgers and the results of this nominee's efforts
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

MAKE A NOMINATION

Richard P. McCormick Award 

This award recognizes a dean or faculty member who has performed outstanding service for the alumni association. It was established to honor the late faculty member and Rutgers College dean, Richard P. McCormick RC'38, GSNB'40.

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee must be a current or former dean or faculty member 
  • Describe the nominee's volunteer service role as it relates to Rutgers and the results of this nominee's efforts
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

MAKE A NOMINATION

Scarlet Oak Meritorious Service Award 

This award recognizes an alumnus/a who has exceeded expectations in their role as a volunteer and who has served as a model for all volunteers in the Rutgers community.

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee must be a Rutgers graduate
  • Describe the nominee's volunteer service role as it relates to Rutgers and the results of this nominee's efforts
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

MAKE A NOMINATION

Block R Award 

This award recognizes an alumnus/a for their service to the alumni body through volunteer involvement in charter organizations, work with university partners, support of Rutgers’ community initiatives, and other specific volunteer roles.

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee must be a Rutgers graduate
  • Describe the nominee's volunteer service role as it relates to Rutgers and the results of this nominee's efforts
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

MAKE A NOMINATION

Rutgers Spirit Award

This award recognizes an alumnus/a who has provided exemplary volunteer service and who has graduated within the past five years.

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee must be a Rutgers graduate
  • Describe the nominee's volunteer service role as it relates to Rutgers and the results of this nominee's efforts
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

Edward J. Bloustein Award 

This award recognizes community service outside of the university by a Rutgers alumnus/a or group of alumni. It was established in 1992 in memory of the 17th president of Rutgers University,

Required for nomination:

  • Nominee(s) must be a Rutgers graduate 
  • Describe the nominee's volunteer service role in the community and the results of this nominee's efforts
  • Mention any other awards and honors the nominee has received for volunteer service
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the nominee's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

Award for Events and Programs

Ernest E. McMahon Award 

This award recognizes an alumni event or program for creative programming excellenceErnest E. McMahon was a former dean of University College. The award honoring him was established in 1990 by the Rutgers Class of 1930 on the occasion of its 60th reunion 

Required for nomination:

  • Information for the organization:
    • Name, number of members
  • Event Information:
    • Name/date of program, program costs/profits/fees
    • Number of attendees (broken down by alumni/guests, faculty/staff, students)
    • Program history (if not the first time) 
  • Describe the benefit of this program to your organization
  • Describe the benefit of this program to organization's constituents and Rutgers University as a whole

MAKE A NOMINATION

Award for Multi-generational Families

Legacy Award 

This award recognizes a multi-generational family of alumni.

Required for nomination:

  • Family must have four generations of Rutgers graduates
  • Indicate the family members you would like to nominate, (include school and class year for each member, include contact information for the family) 
  • Nominator's written personal testimony (include any information that demonstrates the family's initiative, impact, leadership, enthusiasm, dependability, etc.)

Please Note: No current RUAA Board members are eligible to receive a Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Award.
