Rutgers License Plates
Rutgers alumni, parents, students, staff, faculty and friends can purchase Rutgers license plates in New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
New Jersey
The plates can be purchased as standard or personalized plates. The standard plate will have a four digit number assigned to you. The cost for a standard plate is $100.
The personalized plate has up to five characters. The first three have to be letters and the last two characters can be letters or a number above twenty. The combination of 3 alpha characters starting with a 'D' followed by numbers 1-99 cannot be used either*. The personalized plate does not have the 'RU' on the right hand side of the plate. The cost for a personalized plate is $150.
*Other exclusions apply as well. Each request must be approved by the NJDMV. Please submit several personalization choices and we will confirm availability with the NJDMV.
If you currently have a Knight Head plate (standard or personalized) and would like to get a new Block R plate that can be arranged as well.
If you would like to purchase a Rutgers license plate, please fill out the request form. After the request form is received by our office we will mail you detailed directions including payment information and official NJMVC forms.
When you purchase a New Jersey or Pennsylvania license plate, you can designate an RUAA Chartered Organization of your choice to receive a portion of your plate proceeds. To do this, fill out the Charter Group Designation Form that will be mailed to you with your DMV applications and return it with your application and payment.

Maryland
Maryland plates are only available as standard plates. Please fill out the request form. After the request form is received by our office we will mail you detailed directions including payment information and an official MD DMV form.

Pennsylvania
Rutgers Block R license plates are now available in Pennsylvania! The standard plate will have a four digit number assigned to you. The cost for a standard plate is $60. If you would like to purchase a PA Rutgers license plate, please fill out sections A and D on the application form. If your car is currently leased form ML-1L must be filled out and sent as well. Mail the signed application(s) and a check for $60 made out to Rutgers University Foundation to:

After the checks and application are received by our office we will place your order with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Your plates will be sent directly to your home. The whole process takes 6-8 weeks. If you would like a portion of your plate proceeds to benefit a Rutgers University Alumni Charter Group please designate your group on this form and mail it in with your application and payment.

Virginia
Virginia residents can order license plates directly from the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles website or by calling 800-DMVLINE or 800-435-5137.
