Committees of the RUAA Board

Apply to Serve on an RUAA Committee

  1. Create a resume detailing your volunteer experience as well as relevant professional experience.
    • Include past experience volunteering with the RUAA.
  2. Complete the Volunteer Interest Form.
    • Check off which committee(s) you would like to join.
    • Attach your volunteer resume before submitting.
  3. A member of the Volunteer Engagement Team will contact you shortly to inform you of availability on your selected committee(s), and direct you to other volunteer opportunities based on your interests.

Alumni Leaders Council Committee

This committee serves as the main point of contact between the leaders of individual alumni groups and the RUAA Board.

Experience Required
  • Previous RUAA committee experience
  • Past or current member of the Alumni Leaders Council

Time Commitment
  • 1-2 years (Terms begin July 1)
  • Monthly meetings, or more frequently as needed
Volunteer Role
  • Utilize business and volunteer experience to advise on volunteer leadership needs.
  • Ensure that sound policies, practices, and monitoring mechanisms exist for chartering alumni groups, and stewarding existing chartered groups.
  • Review annual volunteer program goals, strategies, changes, and issues, and provide guidance.
  • Assist with planning the annual Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Conference and Awards, and attend the events.

Awards and Recognition Committee

This committee is charged with recognizing alumni efforts and accomplishments on behalf of RUAA and the university.

Time Commitment
  • 1 year (Terms begin July 1)
  • Two meetings per year, or more frequently as needed
Volunteer Role
  • Utilize business and volunteer experience to advise on volunteer recognition, process, and selection of awardees.
  • Assist with planning the Hall of Distinguished Alumni Awards, the Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership Awards, and the development of new alumni recognition opportunities.
  • Ensure that sound policies, practices, and monitoring mechanisms exist for the awardee selection process.
  • Review the past performance of recognition programs and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Recommend methods to promote Rutgers recognition events and ensure attendance goals are met.

Alumni Benefits Committee

The committee serves to assess alumni discount providers and royalty-generating alumni benefits programs. 

Time Commitment
  • 1-2 years (Terms begin July 1)
  • 1-2 meetings per year, or as needed
Volunteer Role
  • Review and recommend royalty-generating alumni programs
  • Make recommendations on life insurance program premium credit 
  • Implement the university’s procurement process to develop a request for proposals (with criteria) for royalty benefit programs 

Committee on Inclusion and Diversity

This committee will work to engage a diverse alumni base in all RUAA activities. The committee will cultivate engagement through outreach strategies that encompass diverse constituencies defined as (but not limited to): academic, ethnic, geographical, demographic, recent and milestone graduates, and undergraduate and graduate degrees including professional and health science schools.

Time Commitment:
  • 1 – 2 years (Terms begin July 1)
  • Meetings occurring monthly or as needed
  • Open discussion forums 2 – 3 times per year
Volunteer Role:
  • Build a strategic plan for the committee that addresses the following priorities:
    • Develop and implement strategies to fill leadership roles with diverse alumni talent
    • Bring a variety of perspectives to committee discussions that drive diversity as an integral aspect to all of the RUAA’s goals and practices
    • Educate a diverse population of constituent and university groups about roles and opportunities within the RUAA
    • Use data-driven decision making to recommend strategies to engage students and young alumni with the RUAA in a relevant way

Nominations Committee

This committee is charged with recruiting and identifying volunteer leaders and recommending a slate of future members for the RUAA Board.

Experience Required
  • 1-2 years (Terms begin July 1)
Time commitment
  • 1 year (Terms begin July 1)
  • 1 meeting per year, or as needed
Volunteer Role
  • Utilize business and volunteer experience to help identify, recruit, and make personal recommendations regarding volunteer leaders for RUAA Board roles.
  • Evaluate and prepare a slate of candidates for the RUAA Board and its officers.
  • Monitor nominations process to ensure fairness and equity, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Recommend policies concerning the development of a successful volunteer base.

Philanthropy Committee

This committee represents and advises the RUAA in creating a culture of philanthropy at Rutgers.

Experience Required
  • Previous RUAA volunteer/leadership experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting Rutgers through personal philanthropy
Time Commitment
  • 1-2 years (Terms begin July 1)
  • Monthly meetings, or as needed
Volunteer Role
  • Develop a plan to attain 100 percent giving participation within the Alumni Leaders Council, the leadership of the RUAA's chartered organizations, and RUAA award recipients.
  • Serve as a resource to the Rutgers University Foundation's Department of Annual Giving and its student philanthropy initiative.
  • Provide feedback on increasing alumni propensity to become donors.
  • Recommend methods to build a culture of philanthropy within all RUAA programs and initiatives.
