                                                In recognition of alumni whose achievements in professional and civic life have brought honor to themselves and the university, Rutgers and the Rutgers University Alumni Association each year bestow the prestigious Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni Awards. Another five exceptional alumni will be inducted this spring:
                                        Dennis M. Bone RBS’84
                President of Verizon New Jersey who transformed the telecommunications industry by skillfully leading the statewide launch of Verizon’s revolutionary fiber-optic network; chair of the State Employment and Training Commission and Choose New Jersey
                                Flora D. Darpino CLAW’86
                                Brigadier General in the U.S. Army JAG Corps who valiantly led the rebuilding of Iraq’s legal system from the ground up; commander of the U.S. Army Legal Services Agency and chief judge of the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals 
                                George C. Hill CCAS’61
                                Expert in the microbiology of infectious disease whose groundbreaking research advanced biomedical science worldwide; professor and vice chancellor for multicultural affairs at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
                                                Kathryn L. Holloway CCAS’80
                                Neurosurgery pioneer who developed a new approach to deep brain stimulation; professor at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and chief of neurosurgery at Hunter Holmes McGuire V.A. Medical Center
                                                David E. Schuller RC’66
                                Lifesaving oncologist who introduced a new therapy for the world’s second most common malignancy, doubling survival rates; a longtime scholar and leader at The Ohio State University, currently vice president of medical center expansion
