Join Rutgers alumni and friends to get the inside scoop about the major motion picture, The Help. The Help is already considered a classic, nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, winner of a Golden Globe Award, and two awards at the Hollywood Film Festival. After the movie, our very own Board of Governors Professor Deborah Gray White will lead an in-depth discussion on the setting of the movie, providing an inside view of how our country has evolved since then and continues to evolve today.

The movie will be shown in the Rutgers movie-style theater in Voorhees Hall, featuring comfortable stadium seating and hi-definition projection and sound systems. 

Cost: $15 includes movie, in depth historical discussion, pre-movie reception, and Rutgers souvenir.

Set in Mississippi during the 1960s, a southern society girl returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends' lives—and a small Mississippi town—upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Aibileen, Skeeter's best friend's housekeeper, is the first to open up, to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community. Despite Skeeter's life-long friendships hanging in the balance, she and Aibileen continue their collaboration and soon more women come forward to tell their stories—and as it turns out, they have a lot to say.
